While Doeke only began helping the project in August 2000, he wasted no time in getting started on the photography in his country. On his first five excursions, he spent about 13 hours on the road for each one and has visited scores of cemeteries and churchyards in the Netherlands. He submitted his digital photos on discs and included maps showing the locations and a full ‘tour guides special’ description of the cemeteries. He is also doing the Australian & New Zealander’s graves. So far he has photographed graves in over 200 cemeteries in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.
